The Canon 85mm 1.8 is a very fast, sharp lens. Good for low light and portraits and general shooting.

Good for beginners. Optically, it is beat by the 85mm 1.2 L Mark 2, but this lens still shines in the bang-for-the-buck department in a lighter, smaller, less attention-grabbing package.
